About Me

I work with a limited number of law school applicants by design, because meaningful application strategy takes time. Before shaping a strategy, I take the time to know the applicant’s story, history, goals, and long term vision, so the throughline grows from the person, not from a formula.

About CW Admissions Consulting

Meet Cynthia Rivera, J.D.

As founder and principal consultant of CW Admissions Consulting, I work directly with each client on application strategy, written materials, and overall positioning. Strategy calls, document reviews, and substantive feedback come directly from me.

I hold a B.A. in History from Cornell University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. My admissions perspective is shaped by service as an admissions reader for UVA Law, advising applicants through one of the nation’s largest law school admissions companies, and work in the nonprofit law admissions space with applicants whose numbers or backgrounds required careful framing. Fluent in English and Spanish, I work with applicants from varied academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds.

Before law school, early work on Capitol Hill helped shape my interest in law and public service. I later practiced as a federal attorney and worked in financial wealth management, experiences that inform how I advise applicants with varied academic, professional, and personal histories.

As a first-generation college student, I know what it feels like to navigate a process where the rules are not written down and to wonder whether your story belongs.

My favorite part of this work is the moment when a client realizes that what they have lived through is actually the most compelling part of their application.

How I Approach My Work

The strongest work starts with trust.

Applicants need space to speak honestly about their background, concerns, goals, and doubts, and they need guidance that is candid, careful, and invested in the outcome. I take the time to know the person behind the application. From there, I look at the full file, including the personal statement, resume, addenda, school specific essays, school list, timing, and overall presentation, so each piece supports the larger story being told. I review the materials through an admissions lens and help clients decide what should be emphasized, what needs context, and how their story should carry across the application. I lead the admissions direction for the application; professional writers support the essays through drafting and revision.

This Past Cycle

Applicants I worked with in the 2025–2026 cycle were admitted to law schools including NYU, Michigan, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Cornell. Several were admitted with both their LSAT and GPA below the schools’ medians. The work does not always end at admission. In one case, scholarship reconsideration support helped secure an additional $130,000 from a T14 law school.

Each applicant had more to offer than their numbers suggested. My role was to help the application show the person the numbers could not fully capture.
